Broadway's Blockbusters: Wicked Soars as Films Loom

Broadway's industry box office charts are currently dominated by "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," which achieved its highest gross of $2.97 million last week. This surge coincides with an increase in average ticket prices to $229 and a full 100 percent capacity at the Lyric Theatre.

Following closely was "Wicked," which secured the third-highest grossing spot with $2.5 million, anticipating the release of its film adaptation, "Wicked: For Good." This strong performance contrasts with "The Queen of Versailles," which announced its closure in January after a run marked by mixed-to-negative reviews, though it received a positive notice from The New York Times.

Newer productions also saw mixed results. "Two Strangers Carry A Cake Across Manhattan" opened to an 82 percent capacity, while "Marjorie Prime" began preview performances at 91 percent capacity. These openings indicate a dynamic landscape for current Broadway productions.
