According to an excerpt from his upcoming memoir, Kevin Federline, the ex-husband of pop star Britney Spears, believes the fan-led movement to end Spears' 13-year conservatorship may have "started from a good place," but ultimately did more harm than good.
Federline, 47, writes that the "Save Britney" supporters vilified Spears' estranged father and former guardian, Jamie Spears, after the 43-year-old singer described her conservatorship as "abusive" in court last year, just months before the legal arrangement was terminated. As a result, Federline worries that those around Britney nowadays cannot step in without facing similar backlash.
"The truth is, this situation with Britney feels like it's racing toward something irreversible," Federline writes, expressing concern over Spears' recent erratic behavior on social media. "It's become impossible to pretend everything's OK. From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we're getting close to the eleventh hour. Something bad is going to happen if things don't change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces."
Federline, who was married to Britney from 2004 to 2007 and shares two children with her, is now calling on anyone "who has ever been moved by" the pop star to stand by her and their sons. He insists he has "never, ever, once, been against Britney" and has only tried to help his kids maintain a strong relationship with their mother.
