The British Soap Awards will not air in 2026, ITV has announced, disappointing fans of Coronation Street, Emmerdale, EastEnders, and Hollyoaks. This marks another hiatus for the annual event, which celebrates the best of British soap operas. The show was last broadcast in 2025, following a break in 2024.
Despite the cancellation, ITV's Managing Director of Media and Entertainment noted the program's positive reception in 2023, with consolidated figures reaching 2.9 million viewers. This year has also seen significant success for ITVX, driven in part by popular British soaps and a notable crossover episode. Jane McDonald has hosted the awards since 2023.
In the 2025 awards, EastEnders dominated, winning eight accolades, including Best Episode and Best Villain. Emmerdale received two awards, while Hollyoaks secured three and Coronation Street one for Outstanding Achievement. The awards ceremony in 2025 was delayed by seven minutes due to technical difficulties.
