- The event featured elaborate inventions launched from a 4.5m platform.

The city of Bristol recently hosted its second annual Birdman contest, drawing thousands of enthusiastic attendees. Competitors designed and built a variety of homemade contraptions with the ambitious goal of flying across the local harbour.
Participants launched their inventive devices from a 4.5m (14.7ft) high platform, though most attempts resulted in short glides rather than sustained flight. The event commenced with a jump initiated by Bristol Beer Factory, followed by a UWE engineering team's inflatable Concorde model.
The Bakehouse Factory team was recognized for raising the most funds and received an award for their audience-favourite flight. Dressed as food items under attack by seagulls, their performance was a crowd-pleaser.
Ultimately, the organizing team, Grassroots Communities, secured the overall win with their impressive gliding contraption. Funds generated from the day's activities are dedicated to supporting the charity's vital youth work initiatives in south Bristol.
