Brisbane Artist Battling Cancer Composes Joyful Tune for Ronald McDonald House

In a heartwarming move, the APRA Award-winning electronic music act Mashd N Kutcher has composed the official song for the 2025 McHappy Day, the largest annual fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) in Australia. The bouncing track, set to be played in over 1,000 McDonald's restaurants nationwide on the big day, captures the voices of children and their families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in South Brisbane.

The song's creator, Mashd N Kutcher lead Matt James, was deeply inspired by his visit to the Ronald McDonald House. "Seeing the kids light up while playing instruments, sharing laughs and even singing the Macca's jingle was magic," he comments. "It was a privilege to bring a little fun into their day, and I think that magic shines through in the track."

James, a classically-trained Brisbane artist, knows firsthand the healing power of music. In 2023, he was diagnosed with cancer, Multiple Myeloma, which forms in blood cells inside the bone marrow. However, a year later, in 2024, James and Mashd N Kutcher made a roaring musical comeback with the full-length album Legacy.

The new charity anthem is not the first collaboration between Mashd N Kutcher and McDonald's. In 2022, the duo sizzled with the "Ultimate Mix," the music accompaniment to the fast-food chain's McFlurry with Cadbury's, celebrating the chocolate specialist's 100th year as an Australian favorite.
