26 Sep, 2025
Summary
- Bright Eyes released new album in 2024 after 4-year hiatus
- Oberst suffered vocal injury, forcing tour cancellations
- Band now releasing new EP "Kids Table" with diverse sounds

In September 2024, the indie rock band Bright Eyes, led by Conor Oberst, released their 11th studio album "Five Dice, All Threes." This marked the group's first full-length release in four years, following their 2020 comeback album "Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was."
However, just days before the album's release, Bright Eyes was forced to cancel three shows due to Oberst suffering a severe vocal injury after several warm-up performances. Now, over a year later, the band is releasing a new EP called "Kids Table," leaning into the politically-charged times.
The EP features a mix of genres, from the folk-inspired "Shakespeare in a Nutshell" to the ska-influenced "1st World Blues." Oberst explains the band's desire to experiment and challenge their audience, saying, "We have such a vast catalog of music at this point that if you want to take a deep dive, I hope you can hold your breath a long time."
Bright Eyes has also remained vocal about their political stances, selling "Deport Conor Oberst" shirts to raise money for immigrant rights and launching the Poison Oak Foundation to support LGBTQ+ organizations. Oberst emphasizes the importance of using their platform to advocate for marginalized communities actively under attack.
