Radio host Bridget Hustwaite has responded strongly to a social media post by her ex-partner, AFL player Oscar McDonald, which she believes was a deliberate dig. The incident followed Hustwaite's recent hospitalisation and recovery from a ruptured cyst. Hustwaite revealed she learned of McDonald's post, which coincided with her book's theme, through others, as she had blocked him.
Despite initial hesitation to engage in public discussions about relationships, Hustwaite stated she could not ignore what she felt was blatant disrespect and bullying of her and her work. She advised public figures to exercise caution with their actions, noting that inappropriate behaviour reflects poorly on their employers.
Hustwaite explained that she ended the relationship last year due to serious personal reasons, distinguishing it from mere 'dirty laundry.' She expressed surprise at the timing of McDonald's post but stood her ground, asserting her right to self-defense. Previously, Hustwaite had relocated to Perth in late 2023 to support McDonald's career, undertaking numerous flights between cities to maintain the relationship.
Reflecting on that period, Hustwaite acknowledged she could no longer sacrifice her well-being, career, or health. She affirmed no regrets, confident in her integrity and values, and is now focused on her recovery and future endeavors.
