The 9th edition of the Atlas Workshops, a crucial professional platform for Moroccan, Arab, and African cinema, will be patronized by acclaimed Brazilian filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho. The workshops, scheduled to take place from November 22 to 26 in Marrakech, will see Filho mentoring selected filmmakers.
Filho, celebrated for films like 'Bacurau on the Map' and 'The Secret Agent,' expressed his enthusiasm for supporting new generations of filmmakers. He views the Atlas Workshops as an opportunity to witness the genesis of new cinematic works in the inspiring city of Marrakech.
This year, 30 projects and films were chosen from 320 development projects and 90 films in production or post-production. These selections span across development, production/post-production, and a special section for Moroccan cinema, 'Atlas Close-Ups.'
Representing 14 countries, the chosen projects include fiction films and documentaries, with many by filmmakers who have previously garnered international recognition. The Atlas Workshops are part of the broader Atlas Programs, an initiative dedicated to supporting cinema across Africa and the Arab world.
