Summary
- Butcher and Homelander clashed in the series finale.

- The show's ending diverged significantly from the darker comic book version.

The highly anticipated series finale of "The Boys" delivered a climactic confrontation between Butcher and Homelander, marking the end of the show's five-season run on Prime Video. This conclusion significantly deviated from the original comic book narrative, offering a less grim outcome for the characters.
Homelander, poised to declare himself a divine figure from the Oval Office, was ultimately depowered by a blast from a radiated Kimiko. Following this, Butcher executed Homelander. However, Butcher's personal tragedies and his own bleak outlook led him to attempt deploying the supe virus.
Hughie intervened, confronting Butcher in a tense standoff that ended with Hughie shooting Butcher, who died believing he had saved Hughie from his own destructive path. The remaining Boys dispersed to lead new lives: MM married, Kimiko explored the world, and Hughie and Annie opened a business while expecting a child.
In contrast, the comics depicted a much darker finale. Black Noir, revealed as a Homelander clone, was responsible for much of the chaos. The comics also detailed Butcher's brutal murder of several Boys members before his own death at Hughie's hands, a violent end showrunner Eric Kripke aimed to avoid for the television adaptation.
