Summary
- Costume designer revealed constant discussions about Fishel's weight.
- Fishel's wedding dress choices were restricted due to perceived weight.
- Fishel was a size 2, and her body changes were normal for her age.

During the final season of "Boy Meets World," there were significant behind-the-scenes discussions regarding actress Danielle Fishel's weight, as revealed by costume designer Julie Yang Silver. Yang Silver, who worked on the show from its third season onwards, shared these accounts on a recent podcast. She described "heated discussions" where the show's staff expressed concerns about Fishel's appearance.
These concerns led to wardrobe restrictions, such as Danielle Fishel being told she could not wear sleeveless dresses for her character Topanga's wedding. Yang Silver believes this was due to some individuals thinking Fishel appeared too heavy to show her arms. However, Yang Silver argued that Fishel was a healthy size 2 and was merely experiencing normal physical changes at 19 years old.
Yang Silver and producer Karen MacKain made efforts to shield Fishel from these conversations, aiming to prevent psychological harm to the young actress. Fishel herself later recalled being surprised when writers decided to write an entire episode about her and co-star Will Friedle's weight gain, feeling she had little choice but to accept the storyline.
