In 2025, the BBC will celebrate the 50th anniversary of David Bowie's arrival in Berlin with a new documentary titled "Bowie in Berlin." The 90-minute film, a co-production between Mindhouse and Blackstar Films, is set to explore one of the most important periods in the legendary musician's life.
During 1976-1978, Bowie turned his back on fame and success, disappearing into the streets of Cold War Berlin to reinvent himself. The documentary will shed new light on this transformative time, told through the words of four women who shared Bowie's life - Clare Shenstone, Romy Haag, Sarah-Rena Hine, and Sydne Rome. Each offers their own unique perspective on the singer's art, character, and personal journey.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Francis Whately, who has previously helmed acclaimed Bowie documentaries, "Bowie in Berlin" promises to be a captivating exploration of the artist's creative rebirth in the German capital. As BBC's Head of Popular Music TV, Jonathan Rothery, notes, the film will "shed new light on one of the most important artists in musical history."
