This autumn, Bournemouth's Lower Gardens will be transformed by the spectacular Arts by the Sea festival, returning for its 16th year. The free event, scheduled for September 25 and 26, will embrace an "ELEMENTAL" theme, showcasing dazzling performances after sunset.
Attendees can anticipate a unique lineup including fire-breathing animatronic dragons and a performer clad in chainmail, interacting with four million volts of electricity. Bournemouth-based collective Steamship Circus will present choreographed fire performances, while Paka the Uncredible brings mechanical characters like Elsie the Dragon, capable of producing fire and smoke.
Festival director Andrea Francis highlighted the theme's focus on fire as a source of connection and wonder. BCP Council cabinet member Andy Martin described the festival as "world-class," noting the after-dark program as a particular highlight. The event is funded by the council and Arts Council England.
