BookTok Sensations Unleash Paranormal Romance Anthology

In the weeks leading up to spooky season, some of the biggest names on BookTok have teamed up with Amazon Original Stories to release a new anthology of paranormal romance stories. Titled "Scared Sexy," the collection features six tales that put a unique spin on iconic monsters and supernatural creatures.

One of the authors contributing to the anthology is Katee Roberts, who has opted for a gender-swapped take on the classic "sleep paralysis demon" trope. In Roberts' story, "Beautiful Nightmare," the demon is portrayed as a novice who struggles to properly terrify her human target. However, the demon's "hot and sweet" demeanor ends up eliciting a very different reaction from the story's hero.

According to Roberts, the idea of flipping the traditional monster narrative was intentional. "Right now, men who are monsters are very popular in fiction, romance specifically, but if you look back at myths and legends, a significant number of them depict monsters in the shape of women -- especially the ones designed to tempt folks," the author explained.

With the "Scared Sexy" anthology now available, readers can expect to find a diverse array of spooky-yet-steamy stories that challenge conventional genre tropes. As the authors note, the short story format allows them to focus on "tight arc and pacing" without getting bogged down in extraneous details. Fans of paranormal romance are sure to find plenty to enjoy in this unique collection.
