Bonnie Tyler, the iconic voice behind the 1980s hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart," has reached a remarkable milestone this year, with the song accumulating over one billion streams on Spotify. The music video for the beloved ballad has also garnered over 1.3 billion views on YouTube.

Born Gaynor Hopkins in Skewen, Wales, Tyler's journey to stardom began in local rugby and working men's clubs. Discovered by talent scout Roger Bell, she moved to London and released her first single, "Lost in France," in 1977. Her distinctive husky voice, earning her the nickname "the female Rod Stewart," propelled her career.

In 1983, "Total Eclipse of the Heart," penned by Jim Steinman, became a global phenomenon. Despite its initial eight-minute length, a four-minute radio edit topped charts worldwide, including two weeks at UK number one and four weeks in the US.

Tyler's career has been recognized with numerous accolades, including three Grammy nominations. In 2022, she was named in the Queen's Birthday Honours list and was awarded an MBE by Prince William the following year for her services to music. She also published her autobiography, "Straight from the Heart," in 2023, detailing her transformation from a shy girl to an international star.
