Bollywood Musical Drama Unveils 90s UK Scene

Bollywood filmmaker Vikas Bahl has completed filming in the U.K. for "Bolo Bolo Bolo," a coming-of-age musical drama. The film is set during the significant boom of Punjabi music across Britain in the early 1990s. It stars Jimmy Shergill, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Mona Singh, and Alizeh, with a planned cinematic release in 2027.

The narrative explores how young British musicians blended Punjabi rhythms with contemporary bass-heavy production. This unique sound emerged from informal settings like garages and unlicensed radio broadcasts. The film examines themes of family, friendship, identity, and the search for belonging within Britain's evolving cultural landscape of the era.

Producer Shibasish Sarkar highlighted the film's focus on a unique cultural movement connecting music and identity. Director Vikas Bahl emphasized the raw energy and self-expression of the 1990s British Punjabi music scene. Both expressed excitement for audiences to experience the film, which features a soundtrack reflecting the decade's iconic sounds, in 2027.
