Bollywood Star Sweta Keswani Conquers Hollywood's Audition Challenges

In November 2025, Bollywood actress Sweta Keswani reflects on her remarkable journey from being a star in India to navigating the audition process in Hollywood. Over a decade ago, Sweta moved to the United States, where she faced a new challenge - auditioning. This was a stark contrast to her experience in India, where she would often land roles without ever recording an audition tape.

However, Sweta has since mastered the art of self-taped auditions. She can now complete the process in just 30 minutes, a far cry from her earlier struggles. "I think the first 8-10 years I was horrible," Sweta shared, recalling her initial panic and difficulty in showcasing her skills effectively. But through acting classes, coaching, and the guidance of her friend and fellow actor-director Deven Bhojani, Sweta has honed her audition skills.

Sweta's breakthrough role came recently when she booked a part on the long-running American TV series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." She plays the emotionally heavy role of a murder victim, a departure from the more procedural doctor or lawyer roles she is usually called for. Sweta was initially unsure about the audition, thinking it was her "worst ever," but to her surprise, she landed the part.

Despite the challenges, Sweta remains connected to her Indian television family, with close-knit friendships and regular reunions. She is open to working in India again, but on her own terms - she cannot commit to daily soap operas as she did in the past, but would consider an eight-episode story arc.
