The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has formally requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi's urgent intervention to ensure the safety of Bollywood personalities and their families. This appeal comes in response to a disturbing surge in shootings, attacks, and extortion threats that have plagued the film industry. The association highlighted the unsettling sight of veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan appearing behind bulletproof glass while greeting fans, an event that has deeply shaken the industry.
AICWA's letter detailed several incidents, including firing outside Salman Khan's residence and a knife attack on Saif Ali Khan. The association also pointed to a shooting incident involving Tiger Shroff in Juhu, Mumbai, which occurred in a crowded area. These events, coupled with alleged extortion demands, suggest a pattern of organized crime targeting Bollywood.
The association argues that Bollywood's global visibility makes its stars attractive targets for criminals seeking notoriety and financial gain. AICWA expressed concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in Mumbai, stating that if stars are unsafe, ordinary citizens are also at risk. The return of underworld terror is a serious concern, necessitating visible protection.
Many actors have reportedly resorted to increased personal security measures, including bulletproof glass at their residences and bulletproof vehicles becoming commonplace. AICWA urges the Prime Minister to personally address the matter, direct central agencies to investigate alleged gang networks, and ensure immediate protection for film industry members.
