Bollywood Song Remix Sparks Copyright Firestorm

The recent release of "Saat Samundar Paar 2.0" for the film "Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri," featuring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, has generated significant controversy. While the film's romantic comedy elements and exotic settings have garnered positive attention, the revamped song has faced a strong backlash online, with many users expressing disapproval of the remix. Amidst this public reaction, a legal battle has emerged, with producers Trimurti Films Pvt. Ltd filing a copyright infringement lawsuit against Dharma Productions and others.

The lawsuit centers on the alleged unauthorized use of the iconic "Saat Samundar Paar" from the 1992 film "Vishwatma." Trimurti Films sought ₹10 crore in damages and an injunction to prevent further use of the original song's tune and lyrics in the new version. They contend that all rights to the musical and literary works, including its adaptation, exclusively belong to them, citing the song's presence in promotional posts by Badshah.

Adding a significant development, the Bombay High Court has refused to grant an urgent interim stay on the use of the song, as reported on December 23, 2025. While a detailed order is anticipated, this decision allows for the continued use of "Saat Samundar Paar 2.0" for now, pending further legal proceedings. The film "Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri" is slated for a Christmas 2025 release.
