Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai delivers a brand of chaotic entertainment, embracing its nonsensical premise. The film initially suffers from a slow start, with jokes and music failing to resonate, creating an eerie silence in the theater. However, the narrative shifts gears after the interval, finding its comedic stride with humorous gags and witty one-liners.
While the humor is intentionally naughty and laden with double entendres, it steers clear of explicit crassness. Some dialogues, like the meta-joke about demanding a mother like Nirupa Roy but getting Mouni Roy, elicit genuine laughter. Despite these moments, the first hour feels sluggish, and the climax is stretched unnecessarily.
The film also incorporates some dated toilet humor and brief instances of fat-shaming, such as naming an obese character 'Tiny'. Varun Dhawan reprises his energetic style, suited for this chaotic genre, while Maniesh Paul has limited scope. Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde fulfill their roles adequately, focusing on glamour and reactions. Jimmy Sheirgill plays a stern, protective brother, and the music lacks chartbusters, though 'Chunari Chunari' offers nostalgia.
