- Hussain found the film misogynistic and criticized its message
- Hussain's criticism of the film sparked controversy with the director

In October 2025, Bollywood actor Adil Hussain, who had a supporting role in the 2019 film 'Kabir Singh', has publicly addressed his regret about participating in the project. Hussain clarified that he accepted the role without reading the complete script, a decision he now views as a mistake.
Hussain faced questions regarding his earlier remarks about the film. He said he had to come out publicly and say that he regretted his choice of doing 'Kabir Singh' because he found the film misogynistic, and it was his responsibility to have read the entire script before agreeing to do it. Reflecting on the impact of his decision, Hussain shared that criticism came from his social circle as well, with several women friends expressing disappointment.
When Hussain eventually watched 'Kabir Singh', his reaction was one of discomfort. He stated, "I found it misogynistic. When I saw the film, I thought, 'what have I done?'" He further described that being associated with the film "made him feel small". Earlier in April 2024, Hussain also criticized the film's message, saying it "legitimises male misogyny" and "legitimises violence against anybody".
Hussain's statement snowballed into a controversy, prompting the film's director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, to write a note on social media against him. In a strongly-worded post, Vanga addressed the actor's statement and threatened to replace his scenes in the film.
