Deol admitted that he felt the younger generation had forgotten him and that appearing in a Salman Khan film would remind them of his presence.

While 'Race 3' received mixed reviews, it achieved commercial success and was instrumental for Deol's career revival. Following this, his performance in the 2020 web series 'Aashram' expanded his fanbase on OTT platforms. The true resurgence, however, came with his villainous role in 'Animal', which garnered widespread acclaim and critical praise despite limited screen time.
