Bob Dylan's 1975 Revue: Raw glory on 14 CDs

Martin Scorsese's new documentary revisits Bob Dylan's famed Rolling Thunder Revue, a legendary tour that spanned less than a year in 1975. A massive 14-CD box set accompanies the film, documenting the tour's ragged glory through extensive live recordings and rehearsal sessions. This comprehensive collection aims to immerse listeners in the theatrical experience that defined the revue.

The box set, totaling over ten hours, includes Dylan's sets from five recorded concerts, three discs of rehearsals, and a disc of tour oddities. These recordings showcase the bonhomie among musicians as they rehearsed folk chestnuts and songs from the soon-to-be-released 'Desire' album. Dylan's open-hearted singing is a notable feature, contrasting with his earlier 'Before the Flood' recordings.

Dylan embarked on the Rolling Thunder Revue to recapture his coffeehouse roots after growing weary of arena tours. He surrounded himself with past collaborators like Joan Baez and new talents such as guitarist Mick Ronson and violinist Scarlet Rivera. He also partnered with Jacques Levy, co-writing much of 'Desire' and orchestrating the unique show.
