The Bhartendu Natya Akademi (BNA) recently marked its 50th anniversary with a grand golden jubilee celebration on its campus. The event was adorned with colorful flowers, creating a festive atmosphere for students dressed in coordinated yellow attire. The Akademi's chairperson, Rati Shankar Tripathi, expressed gratitude for the state government's continuous support, highlighting its crucial role in the institution's infrastructural development over the past five decades.
A significant highlight of the celebration was the presence of four meticulously curated exhibitions. Visitors were first greeted by a display of traditional Indian musical instruments. Another exhibition offered a visual journey through BNA's 50-year history, presenting photographs of memorable theatrical productions. A third exhibition captivated attendees with approximately 50 masks used in various performances, representing diverse characters and emotions.
The festivities also included engaging theatrical and artistic presentations. The first day featured the staging of the play 'Refund,' based on a Hungarian playwright's work and adapted for the stage. Following this, a solo Kathak performance by an artist from Varanasi depicted episodes from the life of Lord Krishna, adding a classical dimension to the celebration. Students expressed their enthusiasm for the event, appreciating the opportunity to connect with the Akademi's rich legacy.
