Bloodstained Director Shutaro Iida Dies at 52

Game industry veteran Shutaro Iida, known for his significant work on the Castlevania and Bloodstained game series, passed away on February 10th. He was 52 years old.

Iida's family announced his passing, stating that he had been fighting pancreatic cancer since his diagnosis in September 2024. Throughout his illness, he shared updates on his condition via social media until recently.

Joining Konami in 1996, Iida was a key programmer on numerous Castlevania titles, including "Aria of Sorrow" and "Harmony of Despair." He later contributed to "Metal Gear Solid V" before directing "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night" and serving as director for the upcoming "Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement."

Koji Igarashi, producer of the Castlevania series and "Bloodstained," expressed deep sorrow, remembering Iida's unparalleled talent and passion. He noted that many masterpieces would not have been possible without Iida's contributions, which spanned over two decades.
