Canadian and American Production Firms Ink Landmark Joint Venture

In a significant move, Canadian production company Blink49 Studios and Los Angeles-based Piller/Segan have announced a joint venture to develop and produce premium content. The partnership, which was inked in recent months, will see both sides contribute financially and creatively to the new venture.

Blink49 CEO John Morayniss and Piller/Segan partners Shawn Piller and Lloyd Segan have a long-standing creative relationship, having previously collaborated on the Canadian procedural series Private Eyes and Haven. The two companies are currently working on Season 3 of the CBC and The CW drama Wild Cards, with a fourth season set to premiere.

The new joint venture is being pitched as a "hub for bold new projects," with an "open-door approach to building long-term IP and franchises across genres." The partners aim to encourage crossover opportunities for concepts that can thrive in multiple formats, from supporting established voices to cultivating fresh talent.

As part of the deal, Piller/Segan will be expanding its creative team with the hire of an additional executive experienced in sourcing and shepherding projects for the venture. The companies believe this collaboration will allow them to deliver globally resonant storytelling and provide creators with the resources they need to succeed.
