From October 1st to 11th, the Gold Coast will transform into a hub of artistic expression with the return of the Bleach festival. Under the new artistic direction of Felix Preval, the 11-day event will feature a diverse program of Australian and international art and performance at HOTA, the Home of the Arts. The festival aims to embrace the warmth of spring, extending activities beyond indoor venues into the HOTA precinct. The opening night will feature 'Beacon,' an immersive installation by Morag Myerscough, accompanied by a community choir.
Attendees can anticipate a series of free outdoor stage concerts, including a notable double bill with neo-soul and jazz vocalist Lady Blackbird and Australian electronic music duo Electric Fields. New Zealand band Six60 is also set to perform their genre-blending music. The festival will also present contemporary circus performances like 'Ocker' by Na Djinang Circus, and adventurous dance pieces such as 'The Butterfly Who Flew Into the Rave' and 'In Cuddle'. An immersive video installation, 'Shundori' by Naina Sen, will also be showcased.
Beyond performances, Bleach festival offers unique culinary and artistic experiences. 'Wilderness' provides a pop-up dining event at the Exhibitionist Bar, offering reimagined Balkan street food alongside art installations. Most events are free, with a program designed to encourage participation from midday to midnight, inviting locals and visitors to immerse themselves in the vibrant arts scene.
