Blackpool Council Denies Permit for Seasonal Amusement Rides at South Pier

In a recent decision, Blackpool Council has denied a proposal to install two amusement rides near South Pier on a seasonal basis. The application sought to place the rides in the area from April 1 to October 31 each year.
However, the planning officer determined that the proposed rides would not fit well in the setting and were contrary to several planning policies. This is not the first time the council has rejected plans for a ride at this location. Back in September 2018, the council had also refused to grant temporary approval for a ride to remain on the Prom alongside South Pier.
Now, the applicants have returned with a bid for a Certificate of Proposed Lawfulness, which would effectively mean they would not need formal planning permission. The applicants argue the intended use of the land is similar to the council's own Christmas By the Sea event near North Pier. But the council has remained firm in its decision, denying the latest proposal for the seasonal amusement rides.
