His ex-wife, Christie Brinkley, shared this update in late April 2026, stating he is "doing very well." Joel, 76, received the diagnosis in May 2025, which led to the cancellation of his scheduled concerts due to exacerbated hearing, vision, and balance problems.

In July 2025, Joel himself mentioned that his condition was "still being worked on" and that his balance was significantly affected. He had speculated that alcohol consumption might have played a role in his illness. He made a surprise return to the stage in January 2026, performing at a birthday party in Florida, though his daughter Alexa advised him to remain seated while playing.
