Singer-songwriter Billy Joel is auctioning off 70 motorcycles from his vast personal collection. This decision comes after the musician experienced health scares and underwent brain surgery. Joel, now in his 70s, cited his condition, hydrocephalus, which impacts balance and other functions, as a key factor in his decision.
He recently shared that he is currently unable to drive or perform, as advised by his doctors. Joel aims to avoid risks associated with riding, stating he doesn't 'want to die like a bug on the windshield.' His former motorcycle shop on Long Island, which also served as a museum, closed last year after 15 years of operation.
The auction is scheduled for November 20 and 21 as part of Gooding Christie's Retromobile New York Auctions. Joel previously stated his admiration for meticulously built bikes and expressed his enjoyment in building the collection, now ready to pass it on.
