The 2026 Grammy nominations were announced last Friday, and music fans are a bit puzzled by Billie Eilish's nods for her song "Wildflower." The track has been nominated for both Song and Record of the Year, which is surprising since it was initially featured on Eilish's 2024 album "Hit Me Hard and Soft."
That album had already earned Grammy nominations at the 67th annual ceremony in February 2025, including for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. However, the Recording Academy's rules state that a track or single from a previous year's album can still be eligible for the current year's awards, as long as it was released as a standalone single during the eligibility period.
"Wildflower" was released as a single in February 2025, which falls within the eligibility window of August 31, 2024 to August 30, 2025 for the 68th Annual Grammy Awards. Since "Hit Me Hard and Soft" did not win any awards at the 2025 Grammys, that also makes "Wildflower" eligible to compete this year.
At the upcoming ceremony, Eilish's "Wildflower" will be up against stiff competition in both the Song and Record of the Year categories. But the singer is clearly thrilled with the surprise nominations, writing on Instagram that she feels "so grateful" for the recognition.
