Directed and adapted by Sarah Polley, the film brings Plath's 1963 semi-autobiographical novel to life. The story follows Esther's journey through ambition, identity, and mental health struggles while interning in New York City.
Carey Mulligan is set to play Esther's mother, Mrs. Greenwood. Production commenced in Toronto in late June 2026 and is scheduled to continue through the summer of 2026. This marks Polley's first feature directorial project since 'Women Talking'.
Eilish's acting experience also includes a guest role in Prime Video's 'Swarm' in 2023. She has previously won two Academy Awards for original songs. 'The Bell Jar' currently has no official release date.
