Summary
- Billie Eilish may star in 'The Bell Jar' film adaptation.
- She'll portray Esther Greenwood, a student struggling with depression.
- Sarah Polley will write and direct the upcoming movie.

Singer Billie Eilish is reportedly nearing a deal to make her big-screen acting debut in an adaptation of Sylvia Plath's novel, "The Bell Jar." She is being considered for the lead role of Esther Greenwood, a young student grappling with severe depression in 1950s Boston.
The film adaptation will be written and directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Sarah Polley. This project marks Polley's fifth directorial feature, following her work on "Women Talking" and "Stories We Tell."
The novel, often considered semi-autobiographical, details Esther's struggles with mental health and identity within a patriarchal society. Eilish, who has been open about her own battles with depression and anxiety, appears to be a fitting choice for the challenging role.
Previous attempts to bring "The Bell Jar" to the screen in 2007 and 2016 did not materialize. Eilish previously ventured into acting in 2023 with a role in "Swarm," for which she won a People's Choice Award.
