Focus Features has announced the completion of production for their adaptation of Sylvia Plath's classic novel, "The Bell Jar." The film stars 10-time Grammy winner Billie Eilish in her feature acting debut as the lead character, Esther Greenwood. Carey Mulligan also stars as Mrs. Greenwood.
Directed by Sarah Polley, this project marks her first feature film since winning an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for "Women Talking" in 2023. Polley also penned the screenplay. The supporting cast includes Danielle Deadwyler, Dylan Hawco, Lili Taylor, and Ella Beatty, among others.
Sylvia Plath's "The Bell Jar," first published in 1963, is a semi-autobiographical novel exploring a young woman's struggle with mental illness and societal pressures. The book has achieved global recognition, translated into over 40 languages with millions of copies sold worldwide.
