Veteran actor Bill Murray has taken on a new role as the lead singer of the acclaimed blues band Blood Brothers. The nine-man group is composed of seasoned music professionals, including award-winning guitarists Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia, who co-founded the band in 2022.
Murray's pairing with Blood Brothers was largely a matter of happenstance. Last year, his younger brother invited the band to perform at The Murray Brothers' Caddyshack Golf Tournament, an event named after the 1980 hit film comedy that features Bill Murray as a colorfully unhinged golf-course groundskeeper. The famed actor joined the band for part of their tournament set, which included some of his favorite songs by the Rascals. Afterwards, Zito suggested Murray join the group, and he readily agreed.
Since then, Bill Murray & His Blood Brothers have performed their first show in Chicago, where Murray got his start in comedy as a member of the Second City troupe. The band's lineup also includes Canned Heat guitarist Jimmy Vivino, known for his lengthy tenure in the house band on TV's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." According to the group, Murray's charisma and ability to connect with the audience have been a highlight of their performances.
