Liane Moriarty has unveiled details about her highly anticipated novel, "Big Little Truths," set to be published by Penguin Random House on August 25th. This new book will serve as the foundation for the upcoming Season 3 of the popular HBO series.
The story picks up ten years after the initial events, with the children of the main characters now in high school. The focus shifts to the complexities of teenage life, including drugs and alcohol, alongside personal struggles for the original group of women. The plot is ignited when the high school principal receives a severed human finger, plunging the parents into an uproar.
Moriarty's novel explores the ongoing challenges faced by the Monterey 5, including Celeste's concern over her mother-in-law's unusual behavior and Madeline confronting significant personal challenges. Jane navigates a precarious marriage, while Bonnie finds less solace in yoga. Renata, however, is focused on revenge, as a mysterious man begins lurking around the school, questioning the parents.
Originally conceived as a limited series, "Big Little Lies" garnered significant critical acclaim, winning multiple Emmy Awards for its first season. The second season, which aired in 2019, was based on an unpublished novella and saw Meryl Streep join the cast. Moriarty mentioned that Laura Dern's powerful portrayal of Renata in the series inspired a larger role for the character in the new book.
