- Funding challenges and a lease issue contributed to the festival's end.

The Big Burns Supper (BBS), a festival that brought vibrancy to Dumfries during winter nights, has officially concluded. Launched in 2012 with 80 events across 40 venues, it quickly grew, attracting renowned artists and becoming a significant cultural event for the region. The festival was instrumental in drawing crowds and boosting the local economy, particularly through its popular Spiegeltent.
Over its 14-year run, BBS faced various challenges, including financial and operational hurdles. A notable issue arose in 2015 concerning performer payments. The festival also experienced temporary venue changes and, following the COVID-19 pandemic, a more streamlined approach was adopted. However, a lease dispute in June 2023 and a failure to secure funding from EventScotland in 2024 ultimately led to its cancellation.
Organizers have stated that the festival's peak was around 2019-2020, after which independent funding became increasingly difficult. The decision to end the festival in its current format was made to allow a shift in focus towards other community-based initiatives, such as a carnival and a lights festival, ensuring continued cultural engagement in Dumfries.
