Durga Puja celebrations in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack offered contrasting yet captivating experiences this year. Bhubaneswar impressed with its creatively themed pandals, transforming neighborhoods into destinations. Themes ranged from a Dubai installation to a Char Dham-inspired gate and representations of Odia heritage.
Cuttack, on the other hand, highlighted its legacy of craftsmanship with elaborate silver filigree backdrops, known as 'chandi medhas'. This year, 37 puja committees featured these intricate silver tableaux, with one committee adding a new display made from approximately two quintals of silver.
Both cities experienced significant traffic congestion, particularly near popular pandals, as crowds thronged to witness the festivities. Police in Bhubaneswar anticipated late-night gatherings, while Cuttack implemented traffic restrictions. The celebrations concluded on Thursday with immersive idol immersion processions, accompanied by traditional music and dance.
Visitors enjoyed diverse food options between pandal visits, further enhancing the festive atmosphere. The blend of traditional and modern decorations, illuminated streets, and themed gates contributed to the overall vibrant celebrations in both urban centers.
