He recalled an instance on 'Koffee with Karan' where he expressed his disagreement with critics labelling her as 'badly dressed'.
Their professional collaboration began with 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' in 1999, followed by the critically acclaimed 'Devdas' in 2002 and 'Guzaarish' in 2010. Bhansali also disclosed that his ambitious project 'Bajirao Mastani' was initially conceived with Aishwarya as Mastani and Salman Khan as Bajirao.
However, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was not comfortable with the planned supporting cast for 'Bajirao Mastani', though she was open to playing Mastani. She explained that circumstantial factors made collaboration difficult with the specific team Bhansali had in mind. Despite this disagreement, their friendship endured, and 'Bajirao Mastani' was later successfully made with Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles.
