Beverley Puppet Festival, a significant event that has run every two years since 2006, has been canceled. The festival was not awarded funding by Arts Council England, leading to its discontinuation. Organizers expressed deep disappointment, as extensive planning for the 2026 festival, including securing artists, venues, and school participation, had already been completed.
The festival was scheduled to feature numerous free events alongside ticketed theatre shows during July. Founder and artistic co-director Anna Ingleby extended gratitude to Arts Council England for past funding and thanked all supporters over the past 21 years. A town trail showcasing puppets in shop windows will still take place as planned, offering a small continuation of the festival's spirit.
