Betty Gilpin's Wild Birth Scene Explained

Betty Gilpin has detailed the unconventional filming of a birth scene for the Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein romantic comedy "Office Romance." Gilpin admitted to initial apprehension upon seeing the prosthetic vagina used for the scene. The filming involved a complex setup where Gilpin's legs were hidden below a table while she wore fake prosthetic legs. A puppeteer manipulated an animatronic baby to emerge from the prosthetic vagina.

The process of resetting the scene was particularly unusual. According to Gilpin, only the puppeteers remained as the crew reset the equipment. This involved reaching through the prosthetic vagina, which Gilpin was still wearing, to retrieve a placenta (which may have been removed from the final cut) and the baby. This process was repeated for multiple takes. "Office Romance" features Jennifer Lopez as an airline CEO involved with Brett Goldstein's character, with Gilpin playing Lopez's assistant. The film is directed by Ol Parker and co-written by Goldstein, and is currently available on Netflix. Gilpin is also set to appear in Aaron Sorkin's "Social Reckoning."
