In October 2025, it was announced that acclaimed director Natalia Leite has signed on to helm the feature film adaptation of Emily St. John Mandel's bestselling novel "Last Night in Montreal". The screenplay was co-written by Mandel and Semi Chellas.
The film follows the story of Ali, whose life unravels when his girlfriend Lilia suddenly disappears from their Brooklyn home on the night he plans to propose. Desperate to understand what happened, Ali follows the trail to Montreal, where he uncovers the truth of Lilia's past and finds himself entangled in a dangerous mystery led by an elusive woman named Mickie.
"Last Night in Montreal" is described as a "haunting meditation on the unseen wounds people carry" and the ways those wounds echo through their lives. Producer Simon Faber is excited about the "extraordinary script" and Leite's "distinct vision" in bringing this "very special piece of material" to the screen.
Leite is known for her work on acclaimed series like "The Handmaid's Tale" and "The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox". She is currently filming the Netflix mini-series "Age Of Innocence" based on the Edith Warton novel.
