Bestselling Author Sparks and Director Shyamalan Team Up for Supernatural Thriller "Remain"

Bestselling author Nicholas Sparks is set to release his latest novel, "Remain," on Tuesday. The book, Sparks' 25th, marks a departure from his usual romance-focused stories, as he has co-authored the work with director M. Night Shyamalan. The two creators have collaborated to blend Sparks' expertise in crafting emotional love stories with Shyamalan's penchant for supernatural twists.

The project, which was first announced last year, includes plans for a film adaptation starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor, scheduled to hit theaters in October 2026. Sparks and Shyamalan have worked together before, with Shyamalan previously being considered to write the screenplay for the film adaptation of Sparks' hit novel "The Notebook."

"Remain" centers on New York architect Tate Donovan, who is struggling to come to terms with the death of his sister and her revelation that their family has the ability to see spirits. When Tate takes up residence at a historic bed-and-breakfast, he encounters a mysterious young woman named Wren who will challenge his logical worldview.

Sparks and Shyamalan have promised that the book and film will not necessarily have the same twist ending, leaving readers and viewers to discover the unique surprises in each format.
