The science fiction genre in the 2020s has seen a surge of compelling series, with "Severance" emerging as a standout. This existential drama masterfully blends workplace comedy and dystopian horror, tackling themes of social atomization and corporate power. Its success is marked by 10 Emmy wins and anticipation for its third season.
Notable adaptations and original stories populate the decade's best. "3 Body Problem" from Netflix offers a hard-science approach to extraterrestrial contact, adapted from acclaimed novels. Meanwhile, "Andor" is recognized for its bold, politically charged narrative within the "Star Wars" universe, posing serious questions about rebellion and sacrifice.
Other acclaimed series include "For All Mankind," an alternate history drama that continually reinvents itself, and "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," which revives the franchise's episodic roots. Animated series like "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners" are also celebrated for exceeding expectations as adaptations and standalone narratives.
