Port Wenn Charm: Best Medicine Cast Celebrates Season 1

Academy members gathered for a special FYC event celebrating the first season of Fox's "Best Medicine," a U.S. adaptation of the hit British show "Doc Martin." The series, already renewed for a second season, stars Josh Charles as Dr. Martin Best, who leaves a prominent hospital for private practice in the quaint fishing town of Port Wenn.

The cast and creators shared insights during a Q&A, revealing the show's wholesome warmth and the personal connections that led to its adaptation. Executive producer Ben Silverman highlighted the global search for compelling ideas, noting the strong appeal of the original "Doc Martin" material. Josh Charles expressed his delight in finding a comedic project after dramatic roles, charmed by the scripts and the original series.

Annie Potts joked about her casting due to her age and ability to remember lines, emphasizing her enjoyment of the cast and the show as an escape. Abigail Spencer shared a personal crisis experienced during filming and expressed gratitude for the cast and crew's support. A surprise guest, Copernicus the Kromfohrlander dog, trotted out on stage, delighting the audience and momentarily stealing the spotlight.

The event concluded with a reception blending Port Wenn's charm with Cinco de Mayo festivities, featuring local fare like lobster rolls and a taco bar. Attendees enjoyed themed decorations and a DJ, while the cast, including Charles, Spencer, and Potts, mingled with guests, posing for photos and sharing in the celebration.
