The Berlin Film Festival's inaugural EFM Frontières Focus is set to highlight five genre films, showcasing the burgeoning creativity and visibility of this cinematic sector. These selections, chosen from approximately 100 submissions, underscore the artistic range within current genre output, from folk horror to mystery and sci-fi horror.
The five featured projects include "With Blessings on Your Way," a Bosnian folk horror delving into post-war trauma; "Touch Me," the anticipated feature debut from Irish director Rioghnach Ni Ghrioghair; and "Oriental Snatch," a wild U.S.-Brazil production inspired by the D.B. Cooper hijacking.
Also presented are "Nadine Pick up the Phone," a "dreamy" comedy-drama about trauma, and "Split Rock," a science fiction horror. The focus emphasizes that modern technology, including iPhone filmmaking and AI for special effects, now empowers filmmakers to realize their boundless imagination.
