Bengaluru will be a hub of imagination as Ranga Shankara presents the 16th AHA! International Theatre for Children Festival from July 18 to July 25, 2026. This eight-day event emphasizes live storytelling, offering an alternative to screen-based entertainment for children. The festival proudly includes theatre groups from Argentina, South Korea, Austria, Switzerland, France, Germany, and India, solidifying Bengaluru's status as a key destination for children's theatre globally.
The festival's core aim is to foster creativity, empathy, and critical thinking. It achieves this through visually and physically engaging storytelling that resonates with young minds. Themes addressed include environmental awareness and challenging stereotypes in age-appropriate ways. Since its inception in 2009, AHA! has significantly impacted children by showcasing the transformative power of theatre.
Arundhati Nag, founder trustee and artistic adviser at Ranga Shankara, stated that children's theatre is vital for developing thoughtful, empathetic citizens. She highlighted a significant gap in quality cultural content for children in India, stressing the need for more dedicated spaces like Ranga Shankara. Nag believes that integrating arts, particularly theatre, into childhood is crucial for future generations to value humanity and community.
