The Bengali film and television industry has announced an indefinite strike commencing April 7. Artists and technicians convened on Sunday to halt all film and serial shootings until their demands for enhanced safety and justice are met.
Earlier on Saturday, the West Bengal Artist Forum filed an FIR against the production company responsible for the shooting where Banerjee died. His wife, actress Priyanka Sarkar, also filed an FIR at the Talsari police station. The industry's protest highlights a pervasive sense of insecurity, with demands including the mandatory presence of an ambulance on every set.
Prominent figures like Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta voiced concerns, emphasizing the need for mandatory protection for all workers. The strike, supported by 4,000 actors and 7,000 technicians, underscores a collective effort to protect the industry and its members, learning from the fatal incident involving Rahul Arunoday Banerjee.
