Ben Folds Five: Unearthing a Lost Debut

Ben Folds Five will release a 30th-anniversary box set for their 1995 debut album on September 4, 2026. This special edition includes the original recording and a "shelved attempt" produced by Stiff Johnson, which was later re-recorded by Caleb Southern. Ben Folds shared his thoughts on the band's early days, their unique approach to live performances with a grand piano, and his career, including his solo debut on September 11, 2001, and touring immediately after the 9/11 attacks.

Folds also discussed his recent work, including producing Lindsey Kraft's musical and musical direction for animated projects. The box set will feature a rare early version of the debut album, initially deemed not right by Folds, who explained the sonic differences that led to its re-recording. This anniversary also brings news of potential future touring plans for Ben Folds Five, with Folds expressing a desire to reconnect with the band's early material.
