Bell Media has announced an eight-part series adaptation of the 1979 cult comedy film "Meatballs" for its streamer Crave, slated for the 2026/27 broadcast year. Starring Robbie G.K., the series is described as a "coming-of-age way-too late story" set in a struggling summer camp. It aims to capture the spirit of the original while incorporating modern sensibilities.
This reimagining seeks to update the classic for today's viewers, with producers confirming elements like gender role switches to ensure contemporary relevance. The series will still retain the humor and provocative tone of the original film. Justin Stockman of Bell noted the strategic inclusion of globally recognized Canadians to elevate perceptions of Canadian content worldwide.
Bell's 2026/27 slate also features a revival of "The Littlest Hobo," produced in partnership with Lionsgate and Seth Rogen's Point Grey Pictures. Additionally, "Big Brother Canada" is set to return, alongside new unscripted series like "Balls Deep" and comedies such as "Bulges" and "Salty."
