Belfast has secured the prestigious all-Ireland Fleadh for a second time, with the event scheduled to return in 2027. This announcement follows the city's initial hosting duties this summer, making it the first location in Northern Ireland to host the celebration twice.
The Fleadh, a vibrant showcase of traditional Irish music, song, dance, and language, is set to take place from August 2 to 9, 2026. Organizers anticipate attracting more than 800,000 attendees.
First Minister Michelle O'Neill expressed her delight, highlighting the economic benefits and the opportunity to showcase Belfast's cultural heritage to a global audience.
Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast, Paul Doherty, emphasized the honor for the city, which is also recognized as a Unesco City of Music. He stated that the two-year staging will provide a substantial tourism and economic impact, supporting local businesses and cultural organizations.
Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann praised Belfast's infrastructure and community support, deeming it an easy decision to return in 2027. Director-general Dr. Labhras O Murchu noted that Belfast's world-class venues will elevate the event, especially as it coincides with Comhaltas's 75th anniversary.
Niall McClean of Ards CCE highlighted the surge in interest in traditional Irish music and dance, emphasizing the Fleadh's role as a catalyst for passing traditions to new generations.
